What each setting does
- Greyscale
- The safe default, and what a normal office scan looks like. Keeps mid-tones, so faint pencil and light print survive.
- Black & white
- The crispest text and by far the smallest file, because everything becomes pure black or pure white. It discards mid-tones entirely, so faint pencil, light highlighter and subtle stamps can vanish.
- Colour
- Keeps everything, which matters when the document has stamps, a coloured signature or highlighting that carries meaning.
- Clean-up strength
- How hard to push light greys to white and dark greys to black. Higher makes paper look properly white and removes shadows, but push too far and faint marks disappear. If something is missing from the result, lower it.
- One PDF or separate images
- A single PDF is what forms and email expect. Separate JPGs are useful when the pages will be used individually.

Do I need a scanner or an app?

How do I get the best-looking scan?
Even, indirect light matters more than anything else — window light on an overcast day is ideal, and a direct overhead lamp is the worst because it puts a bright hotspot in the middle. Shoot straight down rather than at an angle, keep the page flat, and fill the frame.
Are my documents uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is transmitted. That is worth knowing here more than almost anywhere else, because the things people scan are passports, contracts, bank letters and medical forms.
Why is the result a JPG inside the PDF rather than text?
Because a photo of a page is an image — turning it into real text needs OCR, which this tool doesn't do yet. The output is a picture of your document, so the text in it can't be selected or searched. It's the right format for sending, filing and printing.
How do I get the best result?

Will the text be searchable?
No. The output is a picture of your document. Making the words searchable needs OCR, which this tool does not do. It is the right format for sending, filing and printing.
Why is the output a JPEG rather than PNG?
Real scans are usually many pages, and JPEG is dramatically smaller for photographic paper texture. The whole point is a document you can actually send.
Can I scan a multi-page document?
Yes. Add every photo at once, drag them into page order, and choose one PDF as the output.
If something looks wrong
- Faint writing disappeared
- The clean-up strength is too high, or you used black and white, which discards everything mid-tone. Lower the strength or switch to greyscale.
- The paper still looks grey
- Raise the clean-up strength. If it still looks grey at maximum, the photograph was underexposed — retake it with more light rather than pushing the processing further.
- There is a bright patch in the middle
- That is a hotspot from a direct overhead light, and no amount of processing removes it cleanly. Even, indirect light matters more than anything else: window light on an overcast day is close to ideal.
- The page looks skewed
- Edge detection and deskewing are not implemented yet. Shoot straight down rather than at an angle, and crop the result with Crop Image if the framing needs tightening.
